Lawrence Monroe Spurlock

Lawrence Monroe Spurlock was born September 20, 1931, in Huntsville, Alabama. He passed away,at his home,where he so desired to be, in Taft,TN early Tuesday morning, August 10, 2010, after an acute illness.By his side were his beloved son Allen, a niece, great niece, nephew and daughter-in-law. Allen is so grateful to all the family members who helped with his dad's care both at home and during many hospital stays. He is also thankful for the family, friends, neighbors and co-workers who offered help and support and came to see his dad.He is preceded in death by his parents Lecil and Martha Whitehead Spurlock; son Lawrence Andrew (Andy); brothers Louis, William and George Dillard; sisters Eudora Traglia and husband Jimmy, Mary Elizabeth Bragg and husband Adam, Alice Adcock and husband Bob; niece Barbara Alice Bragg; nephews Bruce Bragg and Ron Clark; and special sister-in-law Edna Clark.He is survived by his son, Huntsville Firefighter, George Allen (Allen) of Ardmore, AL; daughters-in-laws Karon of Ardmore, AL and Julie of Dallas, TX; grandsons former Marine Christopher,of Ft. Lauderdale,FL, Jesse, of Winchester, TN; granddaughter Andrea, of Dallas, TX; great grandsons Sebastian, of Winchester, TN And Julian, of Dallas, TX; great granddaughters Harmony and Kaelyn, of Dallas, TX; 11 nieces, 10 nephews and many great nieces and nephews; special nephew Ken Clark and wife Sandy, of Hueytown, AL and brother-in-law Don Clark, of Murfreesboro, TN.Lawrence grew up in Merrimack Village and attended Joe Bradley School. He joined the Army in 1950 where he served proudly with the Corp of Engineers. After finishing his Army duties in Korea, he went to work in Gary, IN. He retired from U.S. Steel, in 1983, after 30 years. After his retirement, he returned home to Alabama. He worked at Intergraph Corp. for 10 years and bought a farm in Taft, TN. At one time Lawrence raised cattle. He always loved gardening, tinkering with his tractors, spending time with his sweet neighbors (who all look out for each other) and sharing his home with his dear sister-in-law Edna Clark and her husband Don. But his greatest joy in life was spending time with his son Allen, grandson Jesse, great grandson Sebastian and helping take care of Mia, Allen's Boxer, who went for many rides in his truck.Lawrence's passing ends the first generation of Lecil and Martha Spurlock. But left behind to carry on the Spurlock legacy, for many generations, are some very special family members who loved him and others who went before him very much.We appreciate all your prayers for peace and comfort during this difficult time of saying good bye. But as we were assured, many times, over the last few months of Lawrence's salvation, knowing he had put his trust in the Lord, we are comforted in knowing we will see him again in Heaven if we place our trust in Him also. There will be no services, at Lawrence's request. We would like to thank Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home for their assistance.
