Betty Joyce Crowden Smith

Betty Joyce Crowden Smith, 84, went into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Betty was born April 17, 1937, to Horace Morgan “Ted” Crowden and Gladys McCreless Crowden. She was preceded in death by her parents along with her husband of fifty-seven years, James William Smith. She is survived by her sister, Bobbie Sue Beck of Town Creek; brother Horace (Elaine) Crowden of Muscle Shoals, AL; sister-in-law Polly (Wayne) Falkenberg of Huntsville, AL; sister-in-law Nancy Smith of Park City, TN; son, Drew Smith of Blanche, TN; daughter, Melanie (Mike) Craig of Knoxville, TN; goddaughter, Amy (David) Heflin of Harkers Island, NC; granddaughters, Hannah Elizabeth Craig and Julia Morgan Craig of Knoxville, TN; grandson, Chapman James Craig of Knoxville, TN; god-granddaughter Morgan Renfrow of Morehead City NC; and several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews. Betty was born in Town Creek, AL, grew up in Nitrate City, AL, and graduated from Colbert County High School, AL. After training at Larimore Business College in Florence, AL, she moved to the Five Points neighborhood in Huntsville, AL, working for the Army as a secretary at Redstone Arsenal, where she met her husband. She married in 1962 and moved to the Blanche community in Lincoln County, TN, in 1968 where she lived until her death. After raising her children Betty served at Blanche School as a teacher’s aide for over twenty years. In 1997 her dream came true with the birth of the first of three grandchildren allowing her to wear the “crown of the aged” for her last years on earth. Betty had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was active in many churches throughout her life, including Cash Point Baptist and Bethlehem Baptist churches in her adult years. Betty brought joy to all who knew her and was always looking to expand her reach. However, one may have met Ms. Betty, they were protected and cherished as her own. Nathan Beck, Chris Chalfont, Chapman Craig, Keith Crowden, Mark Falkenberg, Kenny Graves, and Jacob Watkins are serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive visitors at Cash Point Baptist Church on Friday, February 11th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday February 12th from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Drew Smith officiating.
