Obituary for William Edward Billy" Nichols

William Edward "Billy" Nichols, 84, of Bethel Section Road, Elkmont, ALabama, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Tueadsy, March 17, 2009, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial was in Germantown Cemetery, Athens, Alabama with Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Greg Edwards, Chase Nichols, Michael Wayne Lewis, Jeff Stafford, Jared Butler, and Don Hinkle.Billy was born July 9, 1924, in Elkmont, Alabama to Chester Leonard Nichols, Sr. and Weltha Elizabeth Karn Nichols. He lived all his life in this area and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church, where he was a Deacon. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He enjoyed gardening, cattle, woodworking, remodeling, and his grandkids and family. He was preceded in death by a brother: Chester Nichols, Jr. Billy and wife Maurine were married for more than 61 years. Survivors include his wife: Maurine Nichols of Elkmont, Alabama; two sons: Edwin lee Nichols of Elkton, Tennessee, and Michael William (Melissa) Nichols of Elkton, Tennessee; three daughters: Nancy Lynn (Jeff) Bottom of Elkmont, Alabama, Janet Renee Nichols and Ray Turnage of Elkmont, Alabama, and Shirley Michele (Don) Hinkle of Pulaski, Tennessee; one brother: Earl (Deborah) Nichols of Ardmore, Tennessee; four sisters: Mable (Grady) Reyer of Athens, Alabama, Mildred and the late Malcolm Hastings of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Myrtle and the late John Daly of Huntsville, Alabama, and Nellie (Leon) Barnett of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; a special cousin: Ardelia Cherry of Athens, Alabama; 13 Grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
