Obituary for William D. Whitt

William D. Whitt, 90 of Toney, Alabama passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in Huntsville, Alabama with his wife and children at his side.Born Monday, May 16, 1921 in Ardmore, Alabama to the late White and Lillie Mae Whitt.William was in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant, with two Distinguished Flying Crosses, after flying 30 missions in the European Theatre. He retired from NASA-MSFC in 1986, after 35 years of service supporting the US space program. His retirement was spent in one of his favorite past-times, working his farm. He was a member of Wooley Springs Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School classes for many years.Surviving are his wife: Doris Whitt of Toney, AL, children: Philip Whitt and wife Dot of Charlotte, NC, Larry Whitt and wife Rela of Memphis, TN, Carol Tevepaugh and husband Jim of Huntsville, AL, and, David Whitt and wife June of Ardmore, AL; one sister: Faye Whitt Miller of Meridianville, AL; grandchildren: Steven Whitt and Carol Ann Whitt Mullins of Elon, NC, Daniel Whitt of Ft. Benning, GA, and Gina Whitt of New York, NY; and great-grandchildren: Travis and Jennings Whitt of Elon, NC.Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Wooley Springs Baptist Church, Toney, AL with Bro. Tony Boyles and Bro. Steve Hargrove officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL with military honors.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2011, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama.
