Sam Ed Gates, 77, of Coral Street, Ardmore, Tennessee, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Sunbridge Care Center in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Douglas Eubanks officiating. Burial was in Hasting Cemetery, Ardmore, Alabama, with Ardmore memorial Funeral Home in charge.Mr. Gates was born on January 13, 1927, in Pettusville, Alabama, to Joe Wheeler Gates and Susie Pearl Watkins gates. He was a truckdriver and a member of Ardmore Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed fishing, yardwork, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Era Hargrove, and a brother, Johnnie Gates. Survivors include his wife, Marie W. Gates, of Ardmore, Tennessee; two daughters, Paulette (Tommy) Eaves of Decatur, Alabama, and Patti (Joe) Stagner of Ardmore, Tennessee; two sons, Jim Edd (Gina) Gates, of Harvest, Alabama, and Keith (Andrea) Gates of Elkmont, Alabama; one sister, Eula Mae McConnell of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; and eight grandchildren, Dennis Motley Haddock, SSGT Zachary Motley, Dylan Stagner, Jake Stagner, Katlin Marie Gates, Joseph Truman Gates, Austin Tyler Gates, and Alyssa Blaize Gates.
