Obituary for Robert Lee Wylie

CW4(R) Robert Lee Wylie, 50, passed of natural causes in the early morning hours of April 17, 2007, at his home in Ardmore, Alabama, with his wife by his side.CW4(R) Robert was born the 3rd of July, 1956, in Cherryville, North Carolina. He entered the US Army in November of 1978, and served with distinction as an Apache Test Pilot and Maintenance Examiner. CW4(R) Wylie's loyalty and dedication to Army Aviation is legendary. His contributions and advancements of Apache maintenance and logistical operations earned him the covetted honor of being named "Army Aviation Association of America Aviator of the Year" in 1995- a distinction normally bestowed upon astronauts and experimental test pilots.CW4(R) Wylie was employed by Camber Corporation of Huntsville, serving the Apache Program Managers Office as an Apache Maintenance Operations Subject Matter Expert.CW4(R) Wylie was not only dedicated to his profession, but was devoted, with his wife, to volunteer work and benefitting others. They estabolished the sponsorship of an orphanage in Germany in 1988, that continues today. They have also been foster parents for 36 children throughtout their marriage.He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Ardmore, Alabama; a son, Adam Trammell of Ft. Hood, Texas;daughters, Shawana Wylie of Virginia, Heather Wylie of North Carolina, Leslie Dehaye of Ardmore, Alabama, Eve Grissom of Taylor, Michigan, and Melanie Jimison of Virginia; one brother, Bob Wylie of North Carolina; two sisters, Terri Ann and Dana, both of North Carolina; 10 Grandchildren; and thousands of "Brothers and Sisters in Arms" of Army Aviation.A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2007, at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in Ardmore, Alabama, With Full Military Honors.
