Obituary for Mrs. Avis Tomerlin Henderson

Mrs. Avis Tomerlin Henderson, age 89, of Ardmore, TN, passed away December 7, 2009, at Huntsville Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL, on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, with Rev. Bill Suddarth and Rev. Derrick Moose officiating. Burial will follow in Blanche Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Henderson, John Henderson, Charlie Morris, Drew Smith, Grant Tomerlin, and Steve Tomerlin. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Homemakers Sunday School Class of Cash Point Baptist Church. Visitation is at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. , and Wednesday prior to service. Mrs. Henderson was born in Fayetteville, TN on November 1, 1920, to Myron Grant and Lois (Smith) Tomerlin. Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong member of the Cash Point Baptist Church, a beloved Sunday School teacher, director and teacher of Vacation Bible School for over 50 years, and a revered elementary school teacher for 30 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since 1974 and Giles County Teacher of the Year in 1981. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wilson Henderson; parents, Myron Grant and Lois Smith Tomerlin; brother, William Lester Tomerlin; son-in-law, Charles Ray Hicks. Survivors include her childen, Sharon (Bill) Chaney of Hendersonville, TN, and Marilyn Hicks of Fayetteville, TN; brother, Gene (Lena) Tomerlin of Ardmore, TN; grandchildren, Daniel (Leigh Ann) Chaney of Bowling Green, KY; Alison (Trevor) Ferguson of Elora, TN; David (Amanda) Chaney of Hendersonville, TN; and Kristin (Charlie) Masterski of Hazel Green, AL; four great-grandchildren, Maddox, Brooke, Alexandra, and Davis.
