Obituary for Millie "Doris" Whitt

Millie “Doris” Whitt transitioned from the Earthly realm to the Heavenly realm on December 22, 2020. She joined her husband, William, and many family and friends.

Doris was born on June 23, 1925 in North Alabama, to Houston and Velma Whitt. She passed at Regency Health Care in Huntsville Alabama. She was the wife of William D. Whitt (1921-2011). Doris graduated from Ardmore High School during World War II. She married her High School sweetheart, William, in 1945 after he returned home from the Army Air Corp.

She is survived by four children: Philip (Dot) Whitt, Larry (Rela) Whitt, Carol Whitt (Jim) Tevepaugh, and David (June) Whitt; four grandchildren (Steven, Carol Ann, Gina and Daniel); five great grandchildren (Travis, Jennings, Henry, James, and Savannah); and two brothers, Ray Whitt and Randall Whitt.

Doris was a strong member of her community, and faithful member of Wooley Springs Baptist Church. She loved her family, her church and her community. Doris was active in the Wooley Springs Baptist Church in the Choir, as Church Secretary and as a Sunday School Teacher for many years; and in the Wooley Springs Home Demonstration Club. She was a Teacher’s Aide in several schools in Limestone County, including Ardmore, and retired from the Alabama School System. Doris enjoyed travel, including a trip with her sister, Joyce, to the Holy Land, and numerous trips with her Wooley Springs friends to Pidgeon Forge in the Fall.

She was a hard worker of farm and factory, a dedicated servant of her Church, a wonderful cook, and a loving person who will be missed by family and friends.

Interment will be handled by the Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at the Gatlin Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Wooley Springs Baptist Church, or to the HudsonAlpha Foundation’s Memory and Mobility (M&M) Program.
