Maudie May Smartt, 94, of W. Hobbs Street, Athens, Alabama, formerly of Toney, Alabama, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Limestone Health Facility in Athens, Alabama.Funeral Services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Mike McFarlen officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, Alabama with Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge.Maudie Smartt was born on September 11, 1914, in Capshaw, Alabama, to Franklin and Estella Love Taylor. She was the oldest living member of Liberty Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. She worked at Dunnavants Department Store and at the lunchroom at Sparkman High School. She loved to shop and to "Get out and Go!" She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Lehmon Smartt.Survivors include one son: Calvin Smartt of Harvest, Alabama; two daughters: Betty (Fred) Ikard of Harvest, ALabama and Barbara (Donald) Ikard of Toney, Alabama; one sister: Hazel Martin of Opelika, Alabama; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
