Obituary for Janet Nutt Lundgren

Janet Nutt Lundgren, 85, of Madison, Alabama, formerly of Paramus, New Jersey and Schenectady, New York, died on February 19, 2016 in Huntsville, Alabama. Born August 3, 1930 in Hackensack, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late James Norwell Nutt, Sr. and the late Jessie Hutchison Nutt. A graduate of Westwood High School (NJ) and Drexel Institute of Technology, she met chemist Daniel Paul Lundgren of Brockton, Massachusetts through Tall Clubs International. They married in June 1954 and raised their family in Paramus. Jan taught Home Economics at Maywood High School (NJ) and retired as guidance secretary from Paramus High School. After Dan’s retirement from Lever Brothers, they thoroughly enjoyed their new home in Alabama. Jan returned north after Dan’s 1995 death, to spend ten years at “Neverdone Farm” in Schenectady with Dr. Donald Regula, a high school friend. She spent her final five years back in Alabama with her daughter.
Jan was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Rocket City Tall Club. “Grandma Jan” enjoyed knitting, cooking, camping, dogs, and her family and many friends.
Jan is survived by her son David (Susan Warhaftig) Lundgren of Mill Valley, California, daughter Barbara (David) Tonn of Madison, Alabama; grandchildren Jackson Lundgren, Miles Lundgren, Eric (Kimberly) Tonn of Sandy Springs, Georgia and Kevin (Melitza) Tonn of Huntsville; great-grandson Elijah Tonn of Sandy Springs, Georgia; companion Dr. Donald Regula; stepbrother Conrad Metz of Pitman, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother James Nutt, Jr., stepmother Marian Brown Nutt, and stepbrother Richard Metz.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Hospitality Room at Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road, Madison, Alabama. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM on in Asbury’s Sanctuary with Rev. Ted Amey officiating.
Interment will be at Huntsville Memory Gardens after the service.
