Obituary for James Malcolm Coggin

James Malcolm Coggin, 87 of Ardmore, Alabama died on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at his home in Ardmore, Alabama.Born Thursday, May 24, 1923 in Limestone County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Evans Coggin and the late Delia Tillery Coggin.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 67 years: Dahlia Ruth Mitchell Coggin; brother: Alton (Eleanor) Coggin of Lester, AL; sisters: Louise (Willard) Ferguson of Ardmore, and Alma White of Minor Hill, TN; and a sister-in-law: Alma Coggin of Ardmore.Mr. Coggin was a lifelong resident of the Ardmore area. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a lifetime member and Deacon Emeritus of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He retired from NASA and enjoyed cattle farming, gardening, and his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.Surviving are daughters: Ruth (Kenneth) Hogan of Ardmore, AL and Judy (Terry) Pounders of Russellville, AL; grandsons: Dr. Brian Hogan of Tuscaloosa, AL, Darren (Micki) Pounders and Dusten (Sommer) Pounders, both of Russellville, AL; great-granddaughter: Mylee Analeise Pounders; step-great-grandson: John Isaac Wilson Willis; brother: Woodrow Coggin of Ardmore, AL; sister: Ila Pearl (Buddy) Solomon of Huntsville, AL; brother-in-law: Cletis White of Pulaski, TN; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home Ardmore, Alabama with Dr. Ray Stonecypher and Rev. Lynn Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL. Pallbearers will be Brian Hogan, Darren Pounders, Dusten Pounders, J.O. Wallace, Raymond Fogg, Jean Sarver, Jim Cooper and David Magnusson. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Piney Grove Baptist Church, members of his Sunday School Class, and caregivers: Bonnie Watts, Peggy Collins, Jane Joy, and Mable Griffin.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2010, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama.A special thank you to the staffs of Ardmore on Main Nursing Facility, Hospice of North Alabama, Athens-Limestone Healthcare, Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, the caregivers and the many friends, family, and church family who faithfully ministered to us during our father\'s illness and death.
