Obituary for James Allen Jim" Buckner

James Allen "Jim" Buckner, 71, of Cypress, TX, formerly of Ardmore, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, September 1, at 11 a.m. in the Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Woody Harbin and Bro. Steve Hargrove officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, AL, with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Charles Roland, Paul Erickson, Chris Norman, Patrick Horton, Tom Walker and Roger Hodges.James was born November 5, 1936, to James Henry Preston Buckner and Florence Edith (Preston) Buckner in Huntsville, AL. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1955. He was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church. Mr. Buckner lived in Alabama, Florida and Georgia throughout his life, moving to Texas with his family in 1976. In the 1960's, he answered the call to preach the Gospel at various churches including his own church in New Market. He was a draftsman for the Saturn Five for Boeing, an auctioneer and he owned a construction business building new homes in Florida during the early 70's. He ran his own nursery business in Houston in the 1908's and was a cattleman and farmer in the 1990's. Currently he and his wife, Ruby, own an antique business in Tomball, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Ricky and Charles Norman, grandparents, George and Anna Jennings Buckner and Henry and Ada Hill Preston. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Harris Buckner children James M. and Lisa Buckner of Cypress, TX, Valeria and Des Shelton of Hazel Green, AL, Velda and Ronnie Wilburn of New Market, AL, Kathy and Joseph Tusinski of Houston, TX, Jenny and Garry Sides of Cypress, TX, James D. and Kelli Buckner of Prospect, TN; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy and Jesse Valdez of Magnolia, TX, nieces, nephews, and numerous other family and friends.
