Obituary for Ike G. Hobson

Ike G. Hobson, 83, of Pleasant View Drive, Ardmore, TN, died Monday, February 2, 2009, at his residence. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, February 4, at 1 p.m. at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Edd Templeton and Rev. Debbie Eubanks officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore with Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Bill Stutts and the grandchildren.Ike Hobson was born April 13, 1921 in Liberty, TN, to Auburn Hobson and Calysta Atwell Hobson. Ike and his family moved to the Ardmore area in 1963 coming from Smithville, TN. He was a member of the Ardmore United Methodist Church and an active Mason. He was CEO of the Bank of Ardmore until he retired in 1989. Hobson was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, VFW, and organizer of the Elk River Development Board. He was co-founder of WSLV Radio Station in Ardmore, TN, a member of the Tennessee Bankers Association, and a director of the Bank of Perry County. He served in the United States Navy and was wounded on the USS Montpelier during World War II. Hobson also organized the Ardmore Industrial Development Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack Hobson, and a sister, Doris Gentry. Memorial donations may be made to the Ardmore United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, Ardmore, TN 38449. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Hobson of Ardmore, TN; son, Randy and wife Kathy Hobson of Fayetteville, TN; daughter, Cynthia and husband Gerry Shannon of Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren, Heidi and husband John Richardson, Auburn and wife Jill Hobson, Anna Lindsey and husband Jason Keen, Kylie Shannon and Haley Shannon.
