Obituary for Edith Mitchell Allen

Edith Mitchell Allen, 98, of Madison, AL, died at home on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. A business woman, a single mom in the 1940s, and a Great–great–grandmother, Edith Mae Mitchell was born on February 1st, 1916 to Minnie Johnson Mitchell and James C. Mitchell. She is preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ferguson; a granddaughter, Kimberly Ferguson; and brothers, Clyde Mitchell, John Mitchell and Gene Mitchell. She is survived by her sister, Vada Mitchell McDonald and her brother Douglas Mitchell. Ms. Allen had five children: Kenneth Ferguson, Stanley Ferguson, Sandra Ferguson Hunter, Nancy Ferguson and Steve Pepper. She had 13 grandchildren, 18 great–grandchildren and 9 great–great–grandchildren. She was dedicated to her family and friends. A native of Toney, AL, she spent most of her life in the Huntsville area. With a sincere interest in fishing and a competitive bowling average, she also created, owned and operated her business for well over thirty years, Madison Cross Roads Beauty Shop. She was extremely gifted and committed to the craft of cross-stitch, crochet, needlepoint and quilting. She was a talented seamstress. Also, she truly admired music, art and beauty. Ms. Allen traveled all over the country, as well as to Canada and various countries in Europe. Her friends and family know several of her wonderful phrases and expressions; in the last few years of her life, the most consistent and adored was “I love you so good.” Without question, Edith Mitchell Allen was a most extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Hospice of North Alabama. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL, with Rev. David Downs officiating. Burial will follow in Huntsville Memory Gardens, Huntsville, AL. Visitation will be held at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL on Friday, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
