William "Bruce" Walters

Pastor William Bruce Walters, formerly of Ardmore, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday October 12, 2020. Bruce, born August 5th, 1940 in Moselle, Mississippi, was a well-known pastor, beloved husband, devoted father, and a friend to all those in and around the Ardmore community. Bruce first arrived here with his family in 1998 after accepting the position as Head Pastor for the Ardmore United Methodist Church. Bruce’s desire to help those who are less fortunate lead him to help found the Ardmore local food bank, Christians Helping Other (CHO), which for the last 21 years has helped feed families going through difficult financial situations. Bruce took the Emmaus Walk in 1991. His willingness to help teach, encourage, and disciple young Christians lead Bruce to becoming a Board Member of New Life Community and Spiritual Director on weekends for New Life and New Covenant. He also served as the Director for the Emmaus and Chrysalis Walks in Northern Alabama/ Southern Tennessee. Bruce has a larger than life personality and a God-given joy that could light up a room. There was hardly a place he could go or people he could meet that he did not take the time to learn about who they were, where they came from, and where their relationship with God stood. His smile and his boisterous laugh will be missed by many. Bruce is survived by his wife Susanne Walters; daughters Adrienne Britton and Caroline Brown; his five grand children Scarlette, Chloe, Gabriel, Sophia, and Oliver; his brothers Frank Paul Walters and Lawrence Dean Walters; and his sisters Caroline Elizabeth “Betty” Walters and Emma Katherine “Kathi” Walters Talley. Bruce was preceded in death by his mother Emma Caroline Lowry Walters and his father Francis “Frank” Marion Walters; his sister Linda Dianne Walters; and his brothers David Hanson Walters, Edgar Alan Walters, Stephen Francis Walters Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held at Wooley Spring Baptist Church, 28025 Bethel Rd, Toney, AL, 35773 on Friday October 23rd at 7 pm. The family will be receiving friends starting at 6 pm for anyone wishing to pay their respects before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial contributions be sent in Bruce’s name to the Christians Helping Others food bank in Ardmore.
